Beginnings...

Wow! Our first two weeks of school have flown by! I have so enjoyed getting to know each of my new students and seeing familiar faces in the hallways. After a few days of introductions and getting to know how my classroom works, my classes dove head first into a grammar review. Last week we worked on subject-verb agreement, which is a common mistake and negatively effects writing. I think that most students know understand how to look for the subject of the sentence, ignore the prepositional phrases which get between the subject and verb, and then choose the correct verb form so that it agrees with the subject in person and number. This week, we are going to look at some different types of pronouns and look at their functions in the sentence.

Keep up the good work! Remember to review and study your notes each day so that you will be prepared to participate in class.

Do not forget to read your quarterly novel for our projects. They are due October 5 & 6!

Happy Reading!

  1. I didn't really like the poem that much. It didn't rhyme and that's kind of boring to me. However, I loved the way the author used similies to describe the margins and what not. I also thought it was funny how the adjectives ganged up on the nouns.

  2. I like the poem, alot! I enjoy the authors writing style. This poem is helpful to me because he tells the part of grammar and also expresses what it means without giving a definition but instead using examples. This poem has me interested not only in itself but the author as well. I;m going to research more about him and his works.

  3. It was good... It was good... ok well a very interesting poem, not one of my favorites, but it goes over what we have learned this year so far... The only thing I think it needs it some rhym in it. Ok well its 7:30 and I got to leave for school. -Addison Helms

  5. i kinda liked the poem. I like the fact that it was almost as if the words came alive. That idea came to play when it said the author was off somewhere. This is not favorite poem. But i do like its poetic swagger.

  11. I liked the poem but it seemed more like a speech to me. If it had rhymed I would have known it was a poem but if I had picked this up somewhere and read it I would have thought it was a speech. But overall was well worded and cool

  13. I felt that the poem, although I had to read back a few times was very moving. I thought it showed a boys feeling towards how he was brought on into the world. It was sperital, adn emotional.(I also liked the fact that it rimed.) I didn't like the way it used older grammer because I had a harder time following it, but it was something new and inresting to read that i enjoyed greatly.
